The story of Kytons Bakery Australia.

There’s so much to love about Kytons Bakery Australia — their delicious products, their local roots, and their talented team.
When we think of Kytons, we think of all the special moments in life. At Easter, there are always warm Kytons hot cross buns (awarded best in Australia), at Christmas there’s always a plate of Kytons award-wining mince pies, and at any family barbecue or picnic you can expect to see a pack of fluffy lamingtons being passed around — which have been awarded the best in Australia twice! Then of course, there’s the huge range of slices, waffles, cookies and sweet or savoury pies on offer too.
Kytons has been baking delicious sweet and savoury goods for over 80 years, and in that time has had many personas — a catering company, a successful stall in the Adelaide Central Market for over 40 years, and Adelaide’s premier fundraising bakery since the mid-1980s before settling on retail products.

Located in Edwardstown, South Australia, Kytons uses only the very best ingredients for it’s traditional recipes. While the business is no longer owned by the founders of Kytons, it’s the next best thing — over the past 83 years, the business has only been sold twice, both times to a close family friend. So the ties and passion still remain close!

Since 2003, Kytons has been owned by husband and wife duo, Darren and Sharon Sutton. Darren actually spent his youth working casually over Easter at Kytons, and now — he owns it! When it comes to the food side of things, Darren is the man in charge. Anything else is over to Sharon, who supervises marketing and accounts. It’s the perfect recipe for a happy marriage as well as a great working relationship. These days you’ll also find their two sons helping at the bakery between study commitments.

The production facility at Edwardstown is where all Kytons products are baked, using the best quality ingredients (Australian wherever possible) and time honored recipes. As a bonus, there is a small shop front and café attached to the production facility, so locals can pop in and pick up freshly baked produce — it doesn’t get much more amazing than a hot cross bun straight out of the oven!
Kytons proudly provides employment for South Australians, both within their own business as well as through the many ingredient, packaging and service providers they use in Adelaide. It rings true that good food doesn’t happen without great staff, so Sharon and Darren have made sure to surround themselves with a team of hardworking people, who all find delight in baking products and delivering them straight to South Aussies with a smile. With bakers, packers, wrappers, administration, marketing and shop staff all on the payroll, it’s a busy team — and at Easter and Christmas, the numbers boost even higher with an extra 10 to 15 staff members (many of which are young people gaining plenty of experience in their first job.

Kytons products are proudly on offer in all Romeo’s stores, giving South Australians the chance to enjoy the delicious products that for many, evoke plenty of happy childhood memories.
