In 2019 we saw the impact of one of the worst droughts seen in the past century. So, at Finish, we made a promise to help. We pledged to shine a spotlight on water conservation and provide much needed water donations to rural and farming communities. Since then, we’ve donated over 16.8 million litres of water to drought-affected Australians through our ongoing partnership with Rural Aid via our #FinishWaterWaste initiative.
Today, while drought has lifted across much of Australia, many regions still suffer from ‘green drought’ – where grass is visible but there’s no growth underneath – and water-shortages are still an issue, and the effects of past drought still ongoing.
In 2021-22, we focused on supporting our farming and rural communities and encouraging Aussies to prioritise water security to help safeguard our Australian farmers against future drought. To provide farmers with resources to help give them water security into the future, Finish in partnership with Rural Aid, delivered 100 water tanks to Australian Farmers in need, to help ensure that any rain that falls now will be captured for future use to help our farmers become more drought resilient.
Additionally, in 2022 Finish has partnered with Ozharvest to help save 200,000 kgs of food which in turn saves 69 million litres of water from going to waste. So together we are helping to save water to deliver a future of water security for Australians in need.
As earth’s driest inhabited continent, with one of the most variable rainfalls in the world, Australia needs to be mindful of its water supply. However, Australia is the world’s third largest consumer of fresh water, using an average of 100,000 litres per person per year.
