Maggie, originally from Sydney, worked and travelled overseas in an amazing variety of jobs. Her marriage to Colin in 1970 led them to the Barossa Valley in 1973, where they began pheasant breeding and grape growing. The establishment of the Pheasant Farm was the start of a career that now spans farming, food production, exporting, food writing and television presenting. Inspired by the Barossa Valley’s abundance of fresh produce, Maggie Beer Products bases itself on Maggie’s own philosophy of using superior ingredients, in season, to produce the best products for the national and international markets.
Though their products span far and wide, Maggie Beer Products’ connection to the local South Australian community remains as strong today as it was over 40 years ago. As Maggie explains, “The Barossa has such a rich diversity of produce that it has naturally allowed and encouraged an ever growing tapestry of food-based ventures, but all of them are steeped in a common history. That’s the key; there must be substance that sits behind what appears idyllic.”
The first product in Maggie Beer Products’ repertoire was Maggie’s Pheasant Farm Pate, which was originally on the menu of her much-acclaimed Pheasant Farm Restaurant. It is truly the benchmark in the pate range, and continues to be made locally in the Barossa Valley today along with the rest of the pate range.
Supporting our SA farmers, producers and community is something Maggie Beer Products is deeply passionate about, and some relationships with producers go back over decades! All of our 100% natural fruit pastes are made with fruit provided by local growers wherever possible and are wrapped by Barossa Enterprises – a company that provides employment, support and opportunity to those living with a disability.
Over the last 40 years the business has grown from a just a handful of employees to now being one of the Barossa’s largest employers, producing over 150 products.
